After three years away from home so he could get some schooling, sixteen-year-old Scott Gentry returned to his parents' ranch to come on a scene of gunsmoke and carnage. Without a gun, helpless, he could only hide and watch his mother and father being killed in cold blood, their spread destroyed, his mother scalped so that the killings would look like red men's work.
After the murderers left, he was able to salvage the scalp and also rescue the fortune in stolen money they had thought to hide securely. In the meantime, he had also been able to identify the men.
